Shooting Woes for Tech Lead to 59-56 Loss to College of Idaho

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Elisha Hensey notched a game-high 27 points and Kellie Ross hit four triples, as the College of Idaho defeated Oregon Tech by a 59-56 score in Cascade Conference women’s basketball tonight at Danny Miles Court.
 
Oregon Tech falls to 1-2 in conference play and 12-3 overall.  The road win improved C of I to 2-1 in CCC action and 3-9 overall.
 
The teams went back-and-forth over the first 20 minutes of the first half with the Owls taking a four point advantage, on two occasions, with C of I holding on to their largest margin, five points, just five minutes in. 
 
Both the Owls and Yotes would battle through six ties with the home team taking a 33-31 advantage into the half.
 
An Ashleigh Vandenbrink triple bumped Tech up five, 36-31, but the Yotes hung in, eventually tying the game at 38-all on a pair of Aleah Lowber free throws and taking their first lead on their next possession when Elisha Hensey scored to make it 40-38 with 13:15 to play.
 
The teams continued to see-saw, with six more ties, the last at 45-45 with 3:38 remaining.  The Owls would lead 56-54 on a Megan Whetstone jumper only to see C of I’s Aleah Lowber give the visitors back the lead for good on a 3-pointer, 57-56, with 1:42 on the clock.
 
A pair of Hensey freebies pushed the lead to three points for the Yotes, 59-56, with 14 seconds.  Tech would get two more opportunities to score as C of I missed four-straight free throws down the stretch, but the Yotes escaped as the Owls were unable to score on either chances.
 
Karly LeVeque and Reb Matteri led the Owls with 12 points each, followed by eight points from Tess Armstrong and seven from Megan Whetstone.  Armstrong and Whetstone grabbed seven boards each with Armstrong and Carrie Thibault handing out four assists each.
 
Hensey grabbed a game-high eight rebounds to go with her 27 points.  Aleah Lowber finished with 13 points with Ross connecting on 4-of-8 from long distance for her 12. 
 
Tech was held to just 4-for-21 from the 3-point line, while C of I hit on 8-of-18 from long distance.  Tech connected on just 33.9% overall on 20-of-59 from the floor with C of I hitting just 37.0% (17-for-46).  Tech held a 38-34 edge on the boards but committed 21 turnovers to 15 for the Yotes.
 
Oregon Tech will host Eastern Oregon, while College of Idaho travels to Ashland to take on Southern Oregon.
