Mountaineers Topple Geoducks, 75-50

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Behind an 18 point effort of Madeline Laan, the Eastern Oregon University women's basketball team defeated The Evergreen State College Geoducks, 75-50, in their first game of the Cascade Collegiate Conference season.
 
Following Laan's 18 points effort, was Airashay Rogers and Kassy Larson who scored 11 points apiece. LaNieci Weatherspoon led all scorers with 19 points on 8-of-17 shooting for Evergreen. Brittnay Gray led the Geoducks with 10 rebounds.
 
The Mountaineers scored the first 11 points of the game and Eastern Oregon never looked back against the Geoducks.  EOU continued to add to their lead and Rogers put EOU ahead, 16-4, after hitting a three pointer with11:19 to go in the first half.
 
Both offenses struggled to shoot in the first half and with just under six minutes to go EOU led, 21-10. In the last five minutes of the half the Mountaineers went on a 15-5 run and took a, 36-15, lead into halftime.
 
The Mountaineers continued to add to their lead to start the second half and after a Nikki Osborne layup, EOU held a 40-17 lead. EOU continued to hold onto a 20 point advantage for the remainder of the game, as the Geoducks had no answer for EOU and EOU defeated Evergreen, 75-50.
 
The Mountaineers return to the court tomorrow when they take on Northwest University at 5:30 p.m. Evergreen travels to Caldwell, Idaho to face College of Idaho at 4:30 p.m.PT.
