LA GRANDE, Ore.- The Cascade Collegiate Conference sponsors a Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) made up of representatives from each member institution. The function of the committee is to; discuss and provide feedback on conference issues affecting student-athlete welfare, assist in educating student athletes about CCC/NAIA issues on their home campus, increase and improve student-athletes' understanding of the CCC and NAIA Legislative process, promote student-athlete participation in department wide Champions of Character programs and provide a forum for addressing student-athlete concerns.

The CCC office caught up with Jon Kelly who is one of the

CC- How did you choose Oregon Tech to continue your athletic and academic career?

JK They visited my school and told me about the programs offered. They had the program that I wanted and it was highly respected in the engineering community. In high school I was a runner and I talked to the coach of the team and have been running for Oregon Tech ever since.

CC- What are some of the demands of being a student athlete?

JK- learning how to balance my time. It is hard to take all of the classes as well as practice, but it is impossible unless I manage my time.

CC- What are some of your best experiences so far, both academically and athletically at college?

JK- Some of the experiences that I have enjoyed is living on my own without my parents having to look out for me on everything that I am doing. Also I can do a lot of projects on my own with the information that I learned in classes.

CC- Who are some influential people in your life at OIT?

JK- My coach and a few of my professors are very influential to me. They help me if I need it and push me when I am struggling with something.

CC- When not competing or studying what do you do for fun?

JK- In my very little free time I like to play video games and hang out with friends.

CC- What do you hope to accomplish as a member of the CCC-SAAC?

JK- I hope to accomplish a more untied conference. Even though we are rival schools, it would be nice to know about activities as well as accomplishments of people from different schools.

CC- What do you see yourself doing after graduation?

JK- After graduation, I hope to be working for a company in a position to test devices. I think it would be really fun to get to play with the new “toys” and be able to help improve them. I also would like to continue my running career, even if it is just for fun.
