Darien Moore posted CU's second-best all-time mark in the shot put on Saturday after setting the school record in the weight throw a day earlier.
COMPLETE RESULTS
SEATTLE—In the team's second outing of the year, the Concordia track teams combined to secure 10 NAIA indoor national championship automatic bids while competing at the University of Washington Indoor Invitational.
Matthew Clowes (Stoke-on-Trent, England/Westwood College), already the national leader in the mile, added the NAIA's top time in the 3,000 with a school record 8:04.52. Clowes placed eighth overall in the special invitational field of the event and snapped his former school record of 8:05.05 which he set last year. Converting to an 8:06.72, Clowes holds the NAIA lead in the event by more than 14 seconds over the next best time, an 8:21.08 by Oklahoma City's David Mountford.
A transfer from Valley City State (N.D.),
Darien Moore (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield H.S.) opened up his CU career with strong performances in the shot put and weight throw. Moore won the weight throw with a school record toss of 64-6 1/2 (19.67m), adding almost two feet to the previous record of 62-7 3/4 set by former Cavalier Greg Schultz in 2009.
Also competing in the weight throw,
Adam Riddle (Fox Island, Wash./Gig Harbor H.S.), the defending national runner-up in the hammer, set an all-time indoor career best with a 58-3 (17.75m), adding almost four feet to his previous best in the event.
In the shot put, Moore jumped into the No. 2 position on CU's all-time list with a 56-11 1/4 (17.35m) heave in a third-place performance.
Nate Moses (Fresno, Calif./Bullard H.S.), a national champion in the discus, placed seventh with a 54-11 1/4 (16.74m) while
Zach Lake (Tacoma, Wash./Mt. Rainier Lutheran) took 10th place with a career best 52-3 1/4 (15.93m). All three Cavaliers entered the NAIA's top 10 performance list with Moore and Moses currently going No. 2-3 in the nation.
In the jumps, senior
Ethan Moore (Moro, Ore./Sherman H.S.) nearly posted a pair of school records. Moore nearly matched his own school record in the long jump with a 22-5 3/4 and recorded an indoor best in the triple jump, taking second place with a 47-4 1/4 (14.43m) to land just shy of
Branko Djuricic's school record leap of 47-11 3/4.
On the women's side,
Sarah Whybark (Snohomish, Wash./Glacier Peak H.S.) snipped four second off her lifetime best in the indoor mile with a 5:12.80 to earn an NAIA provisional mark.
Newcomers
Molly Scoles (Sedro-Woolley, Wash./Mt. Baker H.S.) and Briana Keane set season bests in their respective events. Scoles turned in a 1:01.81 in the 400 while Keane clocked a 2:17.03 in the 800. Scoles' time represents the No. 10 all-time indoor mark for the Cavs while Keane's finish holds firm as the school's No. 3 mark in the event. Finishing slightly behind Keane,
Christa Collmer (Boring, Ore./Sam Barlow H.S.) finished with a 2:19.02 for the No. 4 time in school history.
On Friday, the quartet teamed up to place ninth in the distance medley relay, covering the track in 12:20.89 to hit the national 'A' standard.
