PORTLAND, Ore.—Adam Herman (Vancouver, Wash./Prairie H.S.) scored a game-high 30 points as No. 24-ranked Concordia escaped overtime with a 77-73 win over Corban University on Tuesday.

Trailing for the majority of the game, an Adam Herman (Vancouver, Wash./Prairie H.S.) layup with two seconds remaining forced Concordia's (19-6, 8-5 CCC) first overtime game of the season.

After a 66-66 score in regulation, Corban (6-17, 2-12 CCC) was the first team to come up with a big shot in overtime as Tyler Edwards made a 3-pointer for a 73-70 lead with 2:39 to play.

From there, however, it was all Concordia as the home team forced three turnovers while outscoring the Warriors 7-0 over the final moments.

Herman and Esvan Middleton (Culver City, Calif./Culver City H.S.) each had four points in the extra session with Herman finishing with his 11th career 30-point night. Middleton finished with eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds while Thomas Pierce (Gary, Ind./Roosevelt H.S.) added 13 points off the bench for the Cavs.

Despite jumping out to a 5-0 lead, Concordia trailed for most of the first half as the home team shot just 32.3 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes of action.

Corban created a 10-point lead in the first half off a 3-pointer by Toby Roth. The Warriors maintained their lead through the first half with strong shooting from outside, hitting 6 of 13 (46.2 percent) from 3-point range. The half ended with a score of 32-29, in Corban's advantage.

Concordia went on a 16-4 run in the second half to take the lead with 12:58 remaining. From there, the game was neck-and-neck with five ties over the next 10 minutes before Herman's drive in the last two seconds sent the game into overtime.

Corban had solid performances out of several players, including Roth, who led the team with 27 points. Jordan Carter added in 15 points and five rebounds.

Corban received more than one third of its point from the free throw line as the team hit 25 of 29 attempts for an 86.2 percent rate for the game. Concordia managed to stay with the hot-shooting Warriors by limiting itself to just right turnovers.

Concordia floor general Tyler Velasquez (Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty H.S.) finished with a strong line of eight points, nine assists and six steals.

Concordia will return to the road when it travels to play Northwest University in Kirkland, Wash., on Feb. 14. The same day, Corban will host Eastern Oregon University in Salem, Ore.
