NCU Pulls Away from Knights in Second Half
PORTLAND, Ore. - After the two teams waited four days to meet due to weather, Northwest Christian overcame an eight point second half deficit to defeat Warner Pacific, 79-67, tonight in Portland.
After the sides battled to a 37-37 tie in the first period, the host Knights (6-18, 2-12 CCC) looked to be in control after posting a 49-41 lead early in the second half. The WP offense went cold at that point, and the Beacons (7-16, 3-11 CCC) began to slowly make headway.
Megan Tullis made a pair of free throws for WPC at the 10:25 mark which gave the Knights their final lead of the game at 54-53. A few moments later, NCU regained the lead on two free throws from Sami Pitts and the Beacons did not trail again.
Jordan Wilcox drained one of her four three pointers with 3:00 showing on the clock, cutting the NCU advantage down to 64-63 and giving Warner Pacific a final glimmer of hope. The Beacons responded with five straight points and coasted to the win behind solid free throw shooting down the stretch.
Northwest Christian finished the game 32 of 39 from the charity stripe, while the Knights were just 13 of 19.
Wilcox led Warner Pacific with 12 points, all coming from behind the arc.
Megan Tullis added 10 points on 5 of 11 shooting, but the Knights as a team managed just 31 percent for the game.
NCU was paced by Hannah Frederick with 21 points, including a 13 od 16 effort from the free throw line.
COMING UP: The Knights will travel to Evergreen and Northwest this weekend. Tip off is 5:30 pm for both Friday and Saturday games.
