EUGENE, Ore. – With two games remaining in the regular season, the Northwest Christian University men's basketball sits in fourth-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference after surviving a spirited effort by Eastern Oregon University on Saturday night, 77-73.

The Beacons rallied from 15-points down over the final 13 minutes of the game and hung on behind 86% free-throw shooting to get past the Mounties late in the game.

A steal and three-pointer by Deonta Edwards on the first possession of the game set the tone early for the visitors. Eastern would mount an early eight-point lead, and hang on for a 36-32 lead at the break.

The Mounties continued to roll in the second half, opening on a 16-5 run to establish a 52-37 lead with 13:10 remaining. NCU, however, would turn on the accelerator to climb right back into the contest. An 11 point rally, sandwiched by a three-pointer and then a steal and layup by Travis Pacos, brought the Beacons to within four points, 52-48 with 10:41 remaining and EOU was beginning to show signs of fatigue.

NCU was still down seven, 62-55 with just over seven minutes to play when a Coleton Baker three-pointer sparked another Beacon streak as the home team rattled off a 11-0 run that included six free throws, all from Baker.

The Beacons found themselves with their largest lead of the night and they were still clinging to a 71-69 advantage with under three minutes to play. After a handful of unfruitful possessions by the combatants, Edwards was called upon once again to lift the Mounties, hitting a three-pointer with 1:22 remaining to give EOU their final lead of the night.

Pacos (pictured) hit a runner in the lane on NCU's next possession to give the lead back to the home team, and then Pacos grabbed a steal on Eastern's next possession, feeding Baker for the dunk and a three-point lead. Two more free-throws for the senior helped ice the cake.

Before this season, Northwest Christian University was just 1-12 all-time against Eastern Oregon. Tonight's win gave NCU a regular season sweep of the Mounties after also winning in La Grande earlier this season.

The Beacons (15-11, 9-7 CCC) was led by the steady presence of senior Spencer Coleman, scoring 24 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Coleman was 8-for-12 from the field including a 3-for-4 clip from three-point range. Baker finished the night with 19 points, scoring 16 of them in the second half. He added eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Pacos (pictured) came off the bench to score 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting while leading NCU with five assists and four steals. Javonte Byrd also scored 13 points in the win.

Eastern Oregon (15-11, 6-10 CCC) sitting in eighth place in the CCC, was led by Edwards, finishing with 21 points as he shot 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Tony Eackles finished with 20 points and led the team with four assists. Kalvin Johanson failed to find the bottom of the net on Saturday, but led Eastern with seven rebounds and four blocks.

NCU will return to action on Tuesday, facing off against Concordia University at 7:30 pm in Portland. CU defeated the Beacons in Eugene earlier this season, 75-69.
