PORTLAND, Ore.—Behind six dominate innings from starter Jason Snodgrass (Ramona, Calif./Ramona H.S.), Concordia opened up the CCC-NWC Challenge with a 6-0 win against Puget Sound on Friday.

Concordia scored runs in three of the first four innings, including three in the bottom of the first en route to the team's first shutout of the season.

Without recording an out, the Cavaliers loaded the bases in the first inning with Blake Drake (Ramona, Calif./Ramona H.S.) and Mike Egami (Moanalua, Hawaii/Moanalua H.S.) drawing walks against Puget Sound starter Anthony Brady.

After a strikeout, Blake Evetts (Tigard, Ore./Jesuit H.S.) reached on a fielder's choice to score Drake while a throwing error by the Logger defense allowed Christian Lichtenthaler (Albany, Ore./West Albany H.S.) to score from second on the play. Two batters later, Ian Erickson (Astoria, Ore./Astoria H.S.) delivered a drive to right field for the sacrifice out and the final run of the frame.

Ryan McMonigle (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Kailua H.S. ) provided a two-run single in the second while, Evetts came back in the fourth inning for his second RBI of the game, this time a single to right to bring Egami home from second to make it a 4-0 advantage.

Handed the early lead, Snodgrass turned in his third straight quality start. The junior righthander allowed just two hits over seven innings to drop his earned-run average down to 0.95. Snodgrass struck out four and walked just one in the outing.

McMonigle, moving from designated hitter to pitcher, preserved the shutout with two scoreless innings on the mound. McMonigle allowed one hit while striking out one.

Concordia will return to action on Saturday in the third and final game of the day at Porter Park. Salem, Oregon schools Willamette and Corban will face each other in the morning session at 11 a.m. while Corban will remain on the field to play Puget Sound at 2 p.m.

Concordia is scheduled to play at 5 p.m. against Willamette.
