Concordia Softball Splits again at Simpson
REDDING, Calif. - The Concordia softball team split a pair of games, falling 11-3 to Simpson University before earning a 5-1 victory against William Jessup on Saturday.
GAME ONE: Simpson 11, Concordia 3
Simpson used a six-run second inning to take a commanding lead over the Cavs. With two runners on base, Simpson's Cherie DeJesus hit a two-run single up the middle, before the next batter, Marissa Bravo-Baraja drove home DeJesus with a two-run homer.
Concordia (4-5) scored two runs in the first inning with a
Taylor Copher (Sandy, Ore./Sandy H.S.) RBI double. Copher scored on the next play when
Laura Luther (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River H.S.) reached base via an error and returned in the third inning with a solo home run, her first of the year.
CU's starter
Tori Muir (Portland, Ore./Lincoln H.S.) (0-1) went one inning giving up three runs on four hits.
Simpson's starter Carlye Avey completed the five-inning complete game, giving up the three runs on five hits.
GAME TWO: William Jessup 1, Concordia 5
Tied 1-1 in the top of the fourth, Concordia (5-5) scored a go-ahead run in the home half of the frame before plating three more in the fifth to capture a 5-1 win over William Jessup.
In the decisive fifth inning, the Cavs smacked four straight singles, including two to right field to aid starter
McKenzie Marshall (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City H.S.).
Cassidy Horner (Cottonwood, Calif./West Valley H.S.) and
Taylor Bussey (Vancouver, Wash./Prairie H.S.) each registered RBI in the stanza with Bussey driving in
Laura Luther (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River H.S.) from third on a sacrifice fly to right,
William Jessup's only run of the ball game came in the fourth inning with a Brittany Lamar solo home run to right.
With a complete game, Marshall (3-1) picked up the win for the Cavs, allowing one run on four hits. Marshall struck out five batters and walked one in the process.
