Hustlin' Owls Shock No.22 Concordia
PORTLAND, Ore. – Brandon Bautista and Austen Flint connected on 8-of-13 from the 3-point line to lead seven-seed Oregon Tech past No. 2 seed Concordia University 76-61 in the quarterfinal round of the Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s basketball tournament tonight at Cavalier Gymnasium.
Oregon Tech improved to 17-14 on the season and will next take on third-ranked, and top-seed, College of Idaho in the CCC semifinals this Saturday in Caldwell. Concordia fell to 22-9 overall and is now just hoping for an at-large berth to the NAIA national tournament to continue their season.
In the opening period the Owls would hold a trio of four point leads before taking a 28-26 advantage into the half. CU would take their final lead of the game with 1:09 remaining in the first half.
Tech never trailed for the remainder of the game, but CU would cut their deficit to just one point, 37-36, with 12:32 remaining in the final stanza. The Owls would lead 43-40 with 10:40 on the clock before and 8-0 run got the Owls to a double digit advantage. CU managed to get back to single digits at 51-42, but Tech never get it get closer.
Over the next nine minutes the Owls would go up by 18 points twice before closing it out with the 76-51 win.
Brandon Bautista led all scorers with 21 points on 7-of-8 from the floor, including 4-for-5 from long range. Austen Flint followed with 18 points on 5-fo-10 overall and 4-of-8 from the 3-point line. Flint would hand out four assists with Derek Evans grabbing nine rebounds and Duncan Schramm chipping in nine points in the win for Tech.
Oregon Tech shot 24-for-49 (49.0%) overall with a 14-of-32 (43.8%) effort from long range. The Owls hit 14-of-19 from the charity stripe with CU holding a 45-31 advantage in rebounds. Concordia managed 20 more shots than Tech, but finished just 33.3% from the floor (23-for-69) and were 0-for-15 from the 3-point line.
