KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –Oregon Tech opened up Cascade Conference play with a sweep of Corban University Friday afternoon at the OIT Softball Complex. OIT got dominating performances in the circle from Cassidy Olson and Jessi Duncan as the Owls won game 1, 10-2 and game 2, 5-0. Oregon Tech moves to 2-0 to open up CCC play and 9-5 on the season. The Warriors fall to 13-7 overall with the loss and 0-2 in conference play.
In game 1, Olson pitched all 5-innings giving up 2-runs and only 3-hits as she moved her record to 4-3 on the season. The Owls offense powered up 13-hits including homeruns by Shauna Collins (2) and Tori Weatherford (2). Collins and McKenzie Shrum led the Tech offense with 3-hits each while Collins also added 4-RBI.
After Corban opened up the game with a run in the top of the 1
st inning, Tech answered with 2-runs in bottom of the 1
st and 4-more runs in the 2
nd inning to take a 6-1 lead. The Warriors added a run in the 3
rd inning to close the gap to 6-2 but Oregon Tech would add 2-runs in the 4
th and would earn the Mercy rule 5-inning win in walk-off fashion as Collins doubled off the center field wall scoring Cassidy Olson and Cassidy Hoglund to end the game.
In game 2, The Cascade Conference pitcher of the week Jessi Duncan picked up where she left off, giving up only 3-hits over 7 innings while striking out 11 Warriors to pick up her 4
th win of the year against 2 losses.
Oregon Tech scored a run in the bottom of the 1
st inning and that 1-0 score would hold up until the bottom of the 6
th when the Owl bats would heat up. Tre Sullivan started the inning with a solo homerun to center field, her first of the year, giving Tech a 2-0 lead. The Owls would add 3 more runs on 3-hits and a walk to take a 5-0 lead heading into the top of the 7
th inning.
Duncan would close the door, picking up 3 of her 11 strikeouts in the final frame as she threw her 3
rd shutout in a row.
The two teams continue CCC play tomorrow as Oregon Tech will host Northwest Christian University and Corban travels to Ashland, Ore. to play Southern Oregon. Both double-headers are scheduled fto begin at 11:00 am.
