Red Lion Players of the Week Announced
The following CCC and NAIA West student-athletes have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week for their performances during the period March 11 – March 16.
Softball Pitcher
College of Idaho’s Nickayla Skinner has been named the Red Lion Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Skinner, a senior from Mountain Home, Idaho, extended her personal win streak to seven in a row with two victories against No. 22 Concordia and Norhtwest. She did not allow an earned run in either game, striking out a combined 13 and walking just one batter on the weekend.

Softball Player
College of Idaho’s Ashley Van Horne has been named the Red Lion Softball Player of the Week.
Van Horne, a senior from Caldwell, Idaho, had a big weekend for the No. 13 Yotes. She went 8-for-12 in four games with three extra base hits and eight runs scored. The senior reached base in 10 of 14 plate appearances and was 2-for-2 on stolen bases.

Baseball Pitcher
Corban’s Jacob Kopra has been named the Red Lion Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Kopra, a senior from Gresham, Ore., pitched his second complete-game shutout and did not allow a base runner to reach second base until the ninth inning. Over his last three starts totaling 25 innings Kopra has not allowed an earned run and has lowered his earned run average from 3.22 to 1.52.

Baseball Player
British Columbia’s Kevin Biro has been named the Red Lion Baseball Player of the Week.
Biro, a junior from Deep Bay, B.C., was the offensive leader for UBC as the Thunderbirds completed a four-game road sweep of Concordia (Ore.) in Portland, Ore. UBC improved to 13-5 on the season and 6-2 in NAIA West play. The team is tied for first in the NAIA West standings with Lewis-Clark State. The native of Deep Bay, B.C. went 11-for-21 at the plate over the weekend, driving in six runs and scoring four more. His seven at-bats in the series finale tied a UBC school record for most plate appearances in one game.

Women’s Field
Concordia’s Jessica Mattos has been named the Red Lion Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Mattos, a junior from Corralitos, Calif., opened her 2014 outdoor season with the CCC’s top marks in both the hammer and the discus. Mattos’ discus mark of 155-4 (47.34m) earned an ‘A’ standard and is the NAIA’s top overall mark in the event so far this season. At the CCC level, Mattos currently has more than a 20-foot lead in both the discus and hammer and added the league’s No. 5 mark in the shot put.

Women’s Track
Corban’s Lexi Mitzel has been named the Red Lion Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Mitzel, a sophomore from Salem,Ore., won the 5000 meters at the Saints Open with a NAIA 'A' qualifying time. In addition, her time was about one second off of the Corban school record in the event.

Men’s Field
Concordia’s Nate Moses has been named the Red Lion Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
Moses, a senior from Fresno, Calif., uncorked a school record 200-0 (60.97m), in his specialty last week, a mark that battered his former career best which helped the California native to qualify for the 2012 US Olympic Trials. Not only is the mark the best in the NAIA, but the 2012 NAIA national champion in the discuss, currently holds the early lead for all collegiate athletes as Jason Harrell of Long Beach State of NCAA DI Long Beach State has the next best effort at 191-9 (58.56). In further comparison, at a distance of 210-0, the American leader in the event last season, according to USATF, Lance Brooks was only 10 feet farther than Moses’ 2014 opener.

Men’s Track
Southern Oregon’s Cameron Bremner has been named the Red Lion Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Bremner, a freshman from Tigard, Ore., won the 100m dash and took second in the 200m dash in his first collegiate meet. He also hit the CCC qualifying mark in both, punching his ticket to Nampa in May.
