It's A Sunny Day for Concordia's Powers and the Cavaliers
SALEM, Ore. – It was the Sunny Powers Show at the Corban Invitational women’s golf tournament as the Concordia senior blew away the field, winning medalist honors by 17 strokes and leading the Cavaliers to the team title in the tournament that concluded Tuesday at Creekside Golf Club.
The weather on Tuesday matched the Concordia player’s first name as the sun broke through and brought a little warmth to the proceedings after cold, windy and sometimes rainy conditions during Monday’s 36-hole marathon. There were only 18 holes today, and Powers clearly was at the head of the class in this tournament.
Powers scored a 234 on rounds of 80, 76 and 78 on the 5,800-yard layout, and no one was close. Runner-up Samantha Miller from Northwest Nazarene scored 251, followed by Concordia’s Jennifer Gibbons at 253 and Corban’s Brooke Spencer 255. A pair of Concordia golfers, Madison Alamillo and Kelsey Whiles, both came in at 258.
Concordia had a big team victory with a score of 1021 (336-343-342), 36 strokes better than Northwest Nazarene’s 1057 (345-364-348). Other team scores showed Corban with 1120 (386-372-362), College of Idaho 1160 (391-394-375) and Northwest Christian 1162 (393-383-386).
