LA GRANDE, Ore. – Piper Cantrell and Kendra De Hoog have signed Letters of Intent to play for the Eastern Oregon Mountaineers volleyball team in the fall of 2014, Head Coach Kaki McLean Morehead announced.
Cantrell and De Hoog come to EOU after spending two years at Blue Mountain Community College (BMCC), where they helped lead the Timberwolves to two Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) championships. In 2012 the Blue Mountain Community College team was named Oregon Sports Team of the Year.
“We are very excited about the addition of these two exceptional players from Blue Mountain, where they have won back to back NWAACC championships,” said coach Morehead. “We think they will add another level of competitiveness as well as winning mentality to our team.”
Cantrell is a 5-8 Libero from Ashland, Ore., heads to Eastern Oregon after two successful years at Blue Mountain Community College where she earned Second Team East Region and Second Team All-NWAACC team her freshman year at Blue Mountain Community College. During her sophomore year, Cantrell earned First Team All East Region and First Team All-NWAACC. Cantrell earned First Team All-American honors her sophomore year.
“Piper comes to us after being a starting libero at Blue Mountain for the last two years,” coach Morehead said. “Piper really plays with a calm confidence on the floor, and has an exceptional serve receive game.”
De Hoog, a 5-10 outside hitter from Ephrata, Wash., joins EOU after a successful two years at Blue Mountain Community College. During her freshman year at BMCC, De Hoog earned Offensive Player of the Week honors and helped led the Timberwolves to a East Region Championship. She continued her success during her sophomore year, where she was named NWAACC Offensive Player of the Week, Spokane Tournament All-Tournament Team, and second Team All-NWAACC Tournament Team.
Prior to her time at BMCC, De Hoog was an All-League performer her four years at Ephrata High School. During her senior season at Ephrata High School De Hoog earned Co-Player of the Year honors.
“Kendra is a solid, sound player that will immediately vie for a starting position on the floor,” Morehead stated. “She is great all around player and we are excited to work with her.”
Cantrell and De Hoog join Emily Nay, Isabelle Statkus, Maci Beierle, Amanda Miller and Malia Mills to the 2014 recruiting class.
