MONMOUTH, Ore.—After nearly cracking the 4-minute barrier in the mile during indoor season, junior Matthew Clowes (Stoke-on-Trent, England/Westwood College) added yet another strong performance to his season by posting an NAIA-leading 3:44.14 in the 1,500 at the John Knight Twilight on Friday.

Clowes won the event by more than seven second over teammate Brad Prettyman (Estacada, Ore./Estacada H.S.), who remarkably still turned in CU's No. 3 all-time mark and No. 5 on the current NAIA performance list with a 3:51.31 during the race. Clowes' time not only shattered the CU school record, previously held By Cory Pena with a 3:49.84, but also battered the facility record and the met record in the process.

In addition to Clowes, two other Cavaliers improved upon their NAIA 'A' marks as Darien Moore (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield H.S.) upped his national lead in the shot put, winning with a 62-0 1/4 (18.90m), and Emma Buchholz (Sheridan, Ore./Sheridan H.S.) tossing the javelin to a season-best 156-0 (47.54m). In addition to increasing her national lead in the event, Buchholz set a new meet record with the distance, breaking the former mark of 154-0 (46.94m) set by Western Oregon's Carolanne Powers in 2010.

Following Moore in the shot put, Joe Hall () established a new season best with a 50-9 1/2 (15.48m) in a third-place result that nearly reached the NAIA 'A' standard in the process.

The CU men made it a clean sweep in the throwing events as Moore also won the hammer throw with a 209-11 1/2. Adam Riddle (Fox Island, Wash./Gig Harbor H.S.) and Joe Hall () gave the Cavs three of the top four in the event with Riddle claiming second with a 190-11 1/4 (58.19m) and Hall fourth with a 171-7 (52.29m).

Nate Moses (Fresno, Calif./Bullard H.S.), the national leader in the discus, fell shy of his season best but topped the field by more than 20 feet over Moore, who placed second with a 167-9 3/4 (51.14m). Making his Concordia debut, Tyler Callahan (Estacada, Ore./Estacada H.S.) unleashed a 216-0 1/2 (65.84m) in the javelin for CU's No. 5 all-time distance in school history and the third-best distance in the in the NAIA this season.

Back to the track and shifting down to the 800, a trio of Cavaliers punched tickets to nationals with Jasen Brown (Brewster, Wash./Brewster H.S.) leading the way by placing second overall with a 1:52.93 to reach the 'A' standard. Demetrius Rhodes (Portland, Ore./Benson Polytechnic), the national runner-up in the event during the indoor season, followed in third place with a 1:53.63, just off the 'A' barrier of 1:53.00. Andre Washington (Vancouver, Wash./Hudson's Bay H.S.), meanwhile, dipped under the provisional barrier with a career best time of 1:53.96.

Freshman Carlos Ortiz (Salem, Ore./North Salem H.S.) topped the 200-meter field with a 22.08 for No. 3 on CU's all-time performance list. Eric Tolento (Salem, Ore./McKay H.S.) placed fourth overall with a season-best 22.52. Tolento also took third in the 100 with a career-best 11.00.

Posting another win for CU, Jordan Reeher (Prineville, Ore./Crook County H.S.) took the 400-meter hurdles title with a 53.14, just off the season best of 53.06 which stands as the NAIA's No. 6 mark.

On the women's side, Breanna Keane and Christa Collmer (Boring, Ore./Sam Barlow H.S.) went No. 2-3 in the 800 with Keane crossing the threshold in the provisional 2:15.31 and the No. 4 all-time mark in school history. Collmer immediately followed with a 2:16.57, improving her season best by more than a full second for No. 5 all-time at CU.
