SPOKANE, Wash. – The Eastern Oregon University track and field team had two individuals and a relay time hit the NAIA “A” standard. Along with them, two more hit the NAIA Provisional mark, at the Albertson’s WAR VII, hosted by the Community Colleges of Spokane on Saturday afternoon.
Besides the national qualifiers, EOU claimed five different individual event winners at the meet. Kadie Booth (200 meter dash), 4x100 meter relay, Hans Roelle (800 meter run), Kody Shriver (10,000 meter run), and Brian Wickham (Discus) all won their events.
On the women’s side of the event, the Mountaineers scored 102 points, which finished EOU third. Eastern Oregon scored 75 points for fourth place on the men’s side.
On the track, Kadie Booth had an outstanding day. She finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.28 seconds, which is the second fastest time in school history. She followed the 100 meter dash by winning the 200 Meter dash in a time of 25.37.
Booth led a trio of Mountaineers in the 200 meter dash as EOU finished first, third and fourth in the event. Finishing third was Megan Sullivan, with a time of 25.81 and right behind her was Kendall Current in a time of 25.90. Also, in the 200 meter dash, Allison Escobar and Laura Patrick clocked times under the Cascade Collegiate Conference qualifying mark.
Booth’s day was not done after the 100 and 200 meter dashes. She anchored both of the relay teams, 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays for EOU. In the 4x100 meter relay, Booth anchored the relay team to a school record and first place finish in the event with time of 48.12, which was hit the NAIA “B” standard. Kendall Current, Sullivan, Carlondra McGee-Woolbright and Booth broke their own school record.
In the 4x400 meter relay, Sullivan, Irene Olivo, McGee-Woolbright and Booth hit the NAIA “A” standard with a time of 3:52.29, which was the second fastest in the event. The time of 3:52.29 is the third best time in school history.
In the 800 meter run, Hans Roelle hit the NAIA “A” standard when he recorded a time of 1:51.17 to win the event. He finished in front of NCAA Division I Andy Phillips of Gonzaga. Roelle was sitting in the back of the field, but made his move with 300 meters to go to claim the victory.
Damion Flores also qualified for Nationals when he hit the NAIA “A” standard in the 1,500 meter run. Flores finished second in the event with a time of 3:49.85, which was four seconds faster than the “A” standard.
Hitting the NAIA “B” stand was Harley McBride in the women’s high jump. McBride finished second in the event by clearing a height of 1.65 meters (5-5) which hit the provisional mark. By clearing this height, McBride ties the third highest jump in EOU school history.
In the men’s discus contest, Brian Wickham was sitting in fourth place in the final throw of the final six athletes. On his final throw of the event, he recorded a throw of 46.76 meters (153-5) to win the event.
In the 10K, Kody Schriver won the event with a time of 32:12.23. He led the first half of the race before he lost the lead. In the last mile of the race, Schriver pulled away and claimed the win.
Eastern Oregon had 33 different athletes hit the CCC Championships qualifying marks on Saturday. EOU qualified in 23 different events on the day.
The Mountaineers return to the track next Saturday, April, 19 when they had to Nampa, Idaho to compete in the Northwest Nazarene University Invitational.
