Mountaineers Continue to Qualify for Nationals

NAMPA, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon University track and field had three hit the NAIA “A” standard to qualify for Outdoor Nationals and three more hit the NAIA “B” standard at the Northwest Nazarene University Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Talissa Baldovino, Irene Olivo and Brian Wickham hit the NAIA “A” standard on Saturday.

Baldovino ran the fastest 800 meter out of the 13 people in the race, she clocked a time of 2:14.00 to hit the NAIA “A” standard. Baldovino hit the “A” standard by half a second. Her 800 time is the 11th fastest in the NAIA this season.

In the women’s 400 meter hurdles, Irene Olivo hit the NAIA “A” standard by running a time of 1:03.59. Olivo edged out College of Idaho’s Jasmine Hurd at the finish line to win the event. Olivo hit the NAIA “A” standard by 41 tenths of a second.

Brian Wickham hit the NAIA “A” standard in the Hammer throw as he won the event with a throw of 53.78 meters (176-5). Wickham’s throw was the farthest at the meet by 4.33 meters. Wickham continued his successful day in the discus as he hit the NAIA “B” standard with a throw of 47.17 meters (154-9).

Also, hitting the NAIA “B” standard was Kelsea Hurliman in the Javelin. On her second throw of the event, Hurliman recorded a throw of 39.58 meters (129-10), which was the farthest throw of the event.

The Women’s 4x100 meter relay time hit the NAIA “B” standard as they ran a time of 48.19 seconds to claim the top time of the event. The relay team missed breaking its school record, which it previously set last weekend at the Albertson’s WAR VII at 48.12.

The Mountaineers are off next weekend but return to action in two weeks when they head over to Pacific (Ore.) Twilight.
