Owls Finish Off Season Sweep of Raiders
(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) – For the first time since 2008, the Oregon Tech Lady Owls softball team finished off a season sweep of the Southern Oregon University Raiders as the No. 17 Owls won 4-3, and 8-0 on a very windy day at the OIT Softball Complex. Oregon Tech improves to 29-9 on the season and 20-4 in CCC play with SOU falling to 12-12 in conference play and 13-19 overall.
In game 1, Oregon Tech took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 2
nd inning taking advantage of 2-hits and 2- SOU errors.
The Raiders looked to take the lead in the top of the 4
th as they loaded the bases with nobody out. Oregon Tech starter Cassidy Olson then struck out the next two Raider batters and after a walk, forced in a run to make it a 2-1 game; Olson got Ashley Lowe to line out and end the SOU threat.
Southern Oregon grabbed its first lead of the day in the top of the 5
th scoring 2-runs on a hit, an OIT error, a hit batter, and a Sierra Anderson sacrifice fly to make it a 3-2 game.
Tech would grab the lead back in the bottom of the 6
th scoring 2-runs on 4-hits and a very rare sacrifice fly to the 2
nd baseman to score the game winning run 4-3.
Tori Weatherford and Cassidy Olson led the Owls attack with 2-hits each.
Megan Sherer had half of the Raider hits with 3 in the game.
Tech’s Rylee Carleton pitched the final 2.2 innings to improve to 5-0 on the season with SOU’s Brianne Craig getting the loss to fall to 6-7.
In game 2, Oregon Tech got a 3-hit shutout from starting pitcher Jessi Duncan who picked up her 14
th win of the season, striking out 3 while surviving 6-walks.
Tech scored 2-runs in the first inning on 3-hits, highlighted by an Alyssa Davis double.
Back to back homeruns from Davis (5) and Olson (7) to lead off the 3
rd inning gave Tech a 4-0 lead.
The Owls’ Tre Sullivan led off the 5
th inning with a triple and scored as Davis picked up her 3
rd hit and 3
rd RBI of the game and OIT added 2 more runs to lead 7-0.
Shauna Collins led off the 6
th with a single and scored the game winning and mercy rule ending run on a Sadie Birch double off the wall in right center field.
Karlie Stevens had 2 of the Raider hits to lead SOU.
Oregon Tech will wrap up the regular season next Friday against Concordia in Portland, Ore. and Saturday at Northwest in Kirkland, Wash. OIT has a 1-game lead on Concordia for the CCC Title and the right to host the CCC Tournament May 1
st and 2
nd. SOU will play Northwest on Friday and Concordia on Saturday to end its regular season the Raiders are clinging to the 4
th and final playoff spot with a 1 game lead over Corban.
