Sunny Powers on the 13th tee of Round 1 at Ridgecrest GC
NAMPA, Idaho – Riding a commanding performance from two-time champion Sunny Powers, the Concordia women’s golf team is in position to claim their sixth-straight title of the Cascade Conference Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at Ridgecrest Golf Club.
Day 1 Results
Despite a stiff wind from the southeast, Powers (78-74-152) carded the two best rounds of the day to open up an 11-stroke lead on the competition. Her Cavalier squad followed suit, recording five of the top eight overall scores, as CU (331-321-652) holds a 39 stroke lead on the College of Idaho (345-346-691) in the team race on the par-72 track.
Baylee Borchers, who earned medalist honors at the final regular-season CCC event, is a distant second (82-81-163), followed by a pair of Concordia golfers – Jennifer Gibbons (83-81-164) and Kelsey Whiles (86-80-166).
Northwest Christian (363-366-729) is in third-place, 77-strokes back of first. Haley Partridge (84-89-173) was the top player for the Beacons.
Brooke Spencer (87-81-168) is alone in fifth place, helping Corban University (371-373) slide into the fourth position after Day 1. Among the individuals in the competition, Alyssa Clements (85-88-173) of Oregon Tech is in ninth-place, while Scott Jo Helmick (85-90-175) of Warner Pacific is in 11th.
The final round will begin tomorrow morning via a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
