FINAL RESULTS
GRESHAM, Ore. – Defending champions Austin Basterrachea and Jasmine Hurd from College of Idaho repeated their winning performances to claim the 2014 Cascade Conference Decathlon and Heptathlon individual titles at the conclusion of two days of competition at Earl Klapstein Stadium on the campus of Mt. Hood Community College.
Basterrechea was particularly dominant, winning eight of the 10 events including the pole vault and 1500 meters by wide margins on day 2. He went on to rack up 6,601points, a margin of more than 800 over his next competitor.
Jordan Hatfield from Corban used a winning performance in the javelin to slide into 2nd place overall with 5499 points. Anthony Padilla from Oregon Tech climbed up to 3rd place (5,414 points) during the second day behind solid marks in all five events. SOU's Anthony Neal dropped back slightly to 4th place (4,999 points), while Chris Bladorn from Corban (4,997 points) rounded out the top 5.
On the women’s side the competition was much closer, but Hurd used event wins in the 200 meters and javelin to hold off a hard charging field. Her point total reached 4,482 – just over 200 points better than Southern Oregon’s Amelia McGowne who advanced two spots during the second day.
Concordia's Holly Pfaff of maintained her 3rd place position during day 2 thanks to consistent finishes and a final tally of 3,993 points. SOU‘s Lauren McGowne faded slightly into the 4th place position at 3,988 points, followed by Kiki McDonagh from Warner Pacific (3,873 points) who was competing in her first ever heptathlon.
The points earned by each athlete in order of finish will be added to the team scores at the Cascade Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships to be held on May 9-10 in Nampa, Idaho.
