CU men extend lead with strong second round at NCU Invite
RESULTS
SPRINGFIELD, Ore.—Leading by six after the first round, the Concordia men's golf team pushed its advantage to a commanding 28 strokes after the first day of action at the Northwest Christian Invitational on Monday.
Already leading through 18 holes, Concordia (288-283—571) shaved five strokes off its second trip around the 6,595-yard Springfield Country Club course to extend its lead over the host Beacons of Northwest Christian (294-305—599).
Four strokes back of NCU, Walla Walla (300-303—603) ended the day in third place while Corban (304-309—613) and College of Idaho (313-321—634) rounded out the top five teams.
Closing out the team standings were Warner Pacific (312-232—635) and Oregon Tech (326-316—642) in sixth and seventh place.
NCU's Tyler Falk (72-70—142) will enter the third and final round with a one-stroke advantage over the Concordia duo of Jesse Heinly (74-69—143) and Kolton Kyne (72-71—143).
Simpson University's Lucas Vaughn (70-74—144), the leader through the first round, entered the clubhouse in fourth place, one stroke ahead of Concordia's Josh Vizcaino (71-74—155). Jess Wingett (71-77—148) and Ryan Melnychuk (82-69—151) closed out the Concordia scorers.
Recovering from a challenging opening round, Melnychuk posted a tournament low 3-under 69 in the afternoon session, matching Heinly for the overall low round of the day.
Leading individuals for the remaining CCC clubs included Corban's Jared Lambert (71-77—148) and College of Idaho's Kyle DeLorey (74-74—148) who tied for seventh place after 36 holes.
Tied for 17th place, Dalton Durrell (81-73—154) led the contingent from Oregon Tech while Jacob Berg (74-81—155) led Warner Pacific in a tie for 21st place.
