Heinly Named NAIA Second-Team All-American
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Two days removed from finishing seventh at the NAIA National Championships, Concordia senior
Jesse Heinly (Bend, Ore./Summit H.S.) was selected as an NAIA Second-Team All-American, the national office announced on Monday.
Heinly finished the year with a 72.7 strokes per round average in 28 rounds of play. The senior finished inside the top five in half of his 10 events played in 2013-14 and will end his collegiate career with the school's all-time career scoring record at 73.1 strokes per round. Heinly, who was also a second-team All-American in 2012, shot a 1-under 215 last week while guiding Concordia to an eighth-place team finish at the NAIA Championships held in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Last week, Heinly was also named to the NAIA PING All-West Team.
A total of 45 student-athletes were honored with 15 individuals being named to each of the three 2014 NAIA Men's Golf All-America teams, as selected by the NAIA-Men's Golf Coaches Association All-America Committee.
Oklahoma City led all teams with five individuals, including brothers James and Anthony Marchesani on the first team. James Marchesani, who won the O.D. Bounds National Medalist trophy at the 2014 national championships, is receiving first team honors for the fourth-straight year. The three other Oklahoma City golfers – Garrison Mendoza, Matthew Cheung and Scott Verplank – earned third team recognition.
Johnson & Wales (Fla.), Texas Wesleyan, Wayland Baptist (Texas) and William Woods (Mo.) each had four individuals named to an All-America team, while national champion Coastal Georgia had three.
Twelve individuals are making at least their second All-America appearance.
Ten of the 45 award winners are seniors, while 13 are juniors, 12 are sophomores and 10 are freshman.
