LA GRANDE, Ore. – Las Vegas native, Kentrell Washington has signed a Cascade Conference Letter of Intent to play basketball for Eastern Oregon University during the 2014-15 season, Head Coach Jared Barrett announced today.

“Kentrell is a long, athletic point guard that loves to push the ball in transition,” Head Coach Jared Barrett said. “His size (6’4, 200 lbs) will enable him to play multiple guard positions for us, but he is best with the ball in hands.  He has the innate ability to get into the paint and finish or to create for his teammates.  And when you look at the stat sheet at the end of the game, you see that he affects the game positively for you in a plethora of ways.  Like Bryan, Kentrell comes from very good high school and junior college programs.”

Washington comes to EOU after spending one year at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas. During his year at Trinity Valley Community College, Washington started 22 of the 32 games he played in. Washington helped lead the Cardinals to the Elite Eight of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Prior to his one year at Trinity Valley Community College, Washington played one year for Hofstra University where he averaged 16 minutes a game as a true freshman.

Washington attended high school at Clark High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. He averaged 14.5 points and seven assists per game for Clark High School during his senior year. Washington was a First Team All-Conference selection and led his school to a 23-5 overall record and a second place finish in the Southwest Division behind state champion Bishop Gorman.  Washington was also a member of the Las Vegas Sun’s Super Seven preseason team, the top seven players in Las Vegas.

Washington is the seventh member of the 2014-15 recruiting class for Coach Barrett. Washington joins Case Rada (Sacramento State), Bryan McGriff (Grays Harbor Community College), Dylan Radliff (Central Washington), Nick Edens (Gig Harbor High School), Caulin Bakalarski (South Kitsap High School) and Katahdin (KJ) Bosco (Benson Tech High School) in the recruiting class.
