GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Eastern Oregon University track and field team saw two school records broke and two individuals and one relay team advance to the finals of their events on day two of the 2014 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.
Senior, Kadie Booth set the EOU school record in the preliminaries of the 400 meter run on Friday. Booth, who advances to the 400 meters finals on Saturday, ran a time of 55.50 to finish second in her heat and the fourth fastest time in the preliminaries. Booth broke Alma Garcilazo’s school record, which was set in 2011.
School records continued to fall as Booth anchored the women’s 4x400 meter team to the school record and a spot in the finals of the 4x400 meter relay tomorrow. EOU ran a time of 3:48.51, which was three seconds faster than the previous school record that was set in 2011. The Mountaineers ran the fifth time in the preliminaries and improved on their seed time by four seconds.
Running in the fifth and final heat of the 800 meter run, Hans Roelle won his heat to advance to the finals tomorrow. Roelle sat in the middle of the pack until there was 300 meters to go and he made his move. Roelle finished with a time of 1:51.02, which was the third fastest time in the heats. His time of 1:51.02 was faster than the winner from last year.
Brian Wickham, who earned All-American honors yesterday in the Men’s hammer throw, was looking for his second All-American honors of the meet. However, Wickham did not advance to the finals of the discus. He recorded a throw of 44.22 meters (145-01) to finish sixth in his flight.
Talissa Baldovino, an All-American last season in the 800 meter run, failed to advanced to the finals in 2014 as she ran a time of 2:21.57 in her heat.
The 2014 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships will conclude tomorrow, Saturday, May 24th. The first events start at 11 a.m. PT.
