Future and Former Eagles Earn Times Honors
SEATTLE, Wash. – The past and present of NU are represented on today’s Seattle Times Star Times all-area boys soccer team as future Eagle Chris Iacolucci and former Eagle player, Kyle Tatro earned honors as announced by the newspaper. Iacolucci was named to the Star Times all-area team and Tatro earned the Times' coach of the year award.
Here’s what the Times had to say about Iacolucci and Tatro:
Chris Iacolucci
Shorecrest, F, Sr.
Iacolucci evolved into a reliable source of offense throughout his four-year varsity career. The Northwest University signee supplied 17 goals and eight assists for the Scots this season and finished his career with 30 goals and 21 assists.
Kyle Tatro, Issaquah – Coach of the Year
The first-year varsity head coach guided the Eagles into uncharted territory by reaching the KingCo 4A championship match for the first time in school history. Issaquah went a step farther, winning the school¹s first KingCo 4A title with a 2-1 overtime shootout triumph over Skyline on May 8. The Eagles reached state for the third time in school history and second time in three seasons by going 12-1-1 in the regular season.
Iacolucci recently signed a letter of intent to attend Northwest University this fall and play for the Eagle men’s soccer team. His Scots team finished with a 16-5 overall record. Kyle Tatro was a starting defender for the NU team earning honorable mention All-Cascade Conference honors in 2011.
The Times all-area teams are chosen following the regular season by Seattle Times reporters, freelancers and editors. Selections must be from schools in King and Snohomish counties, or in the Metro and WesCo conferences.
Said Tatro of his award, “Being recognized as coach of the year is a huge honor in our first season at IHS. More than anything, it is a reflection of the team. It is not recognition of me but the entire team. They are a great group of boys who have committed themselves to achieving a great deal this season. This award validates their efforts and the goal they set for themselves….”
“For Chris, this is quite an honor coming from an area with so many schools and good soccer players,” said NU coach Gary McIntosh. “It speaks to his quality of play and we’re very excited to having him as part of our program this fall. Kyle Tatro did an outstanding job leading his young team to the state tournament this season, but it’s no surprise. He’s been with Issaquah for 6 years which includes the time he was playing for us and still finding the time to coach at Issaquah.”
