COLUMBUS, Ga. – With their backs against the wall for a ninth time this postseason, College of Idaho staved off elimination at the NAIA Softball World Series, getting a three-hit shutout by Nickayla Skinner and a game-saving catch to top LSU-Alexandria, 1-0.

The Lady Yotes (35-17), who are 8-1 this season in elimination games and have won six-straight loser-out games, move on to meet the loser of Southern States Athletic Conference rival s Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) and William Carey (Miss.) tomorrow at 4 p.m. (EDT)

Clinging to a one-run lead in the seventh, the top-seeded and No. 2 ranked Generals (35-5) got a leadoff single by Raquel Granados, taking second on a bobble by C of I left fielder Briana Brace. Brace made up for the miscue on the next play, reaching over the wall to rob LSU-A slugger Heather Bunn of a two-run home run for the first out of the inning. Skinner got the next two batters to pop out, closing out the win.

The right-hander was masterful for a third-straight game, allowing just three hits and striking out eight for her school-record 26th win.

After stranding runners at first and third in the fourth, C of I broke through against LSU-A ace Kaysee Spears in the fifth. Julia Henrie led off with a double and an out later, Brace walked. A passed ball moved the runners to second and third, with Henrie scoring on a wild pitch. The Yotes would load the bases with one out, but Spears avoided further damage with a pop up and a fly ball out.

Four different C of I players had one hit in the win, with Taylor Simon going 2-for-3 with two doubles in the loss for the Generals.

Game Notes – It was the highest-ranked opponent C of I has ever defeated – with the Yotes now defeating the No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 ranked teams in the NAIA this season…the shutout was the 12th of the season for Skinner, a new C of I school record…Alexis Macias has hit safely in all three World Series games and has hit safely in 11 of her last 12 games…Henrie was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning, the 25th time she has been plunked her career, breaking Stacy Smith’s school record…Skinner has allowed just eight hits in 23 innings during the tournament and just one run…outside of the homer Skinner allowed vs. Lindsey Wilson on Friday, she has not allowed a runner to reach third base in the tournament…C of I won two elimination games in the Cascade Conference tournament before losing in the title game to No. 24 Concordia, then won four elimination games in the Opening Round Bracket – three against Top-25 teams.
