C of I’s Skinner Repeats as Pitcher of Year; CU’s Luebbert Named Top Newcomer

LA GRANDE, Ore. – After leading her team to the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular-season title, Oregon Tech shortstop Shauna Collins has been named Cascade Collegiate Conference Softball Player of the Year after a vote of the league’s head coaches.

The senior from Roseburg, Ore. leads the Cascade Collegiate Conference in runs scored (56), and is top-5 in the CCC in hits (60), total bases (84), stolen bases (20), and walks per game (.42).  Her 56 runs scored currently ranks as sixth best in the NAIA.

For the second consecutive year, Nickayla Skinner of The College of Idaho was selected as CCC Pitcher of the Year.  The senior from Mountain Home, Idaho is the only 20-win pitcher in 2014 with exactly 20 wins.  She is also leads the league with a 1.74 earned run average, strikeouts with 207, and is second with 161 innings pitched behind the 195 innings of Eastern Oregon’s Lindsey Walchli.

After hitting .408 with a conference-high 64 hits, Concordia outfielder Meghan Luebbert was selected as Newcomer of the Year by the CCC head coaches.  The freshman from Sandy, Ore. also leads all conference players with 33 doubles on the season and is second behind Collins in the CCC in runs scored (46) and is top-5 in runs batted in (33), and total bases (99).

Leading his team to the CCC regular-season title and a 33-12 (.733) season, Oregon Tech’s Greg Stewart was awarded the CCC’s Coach of the Year award after a vote of his peers. The Hustlin Owls are currently tied for No. 17 with Oklahoma City University in the latest NAIA coaches’ poll.  Hopefully, next up for Coach Stewart and his team is a trip to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round as the team will look for one of the few remaining at-large berths remaining to the 40-team field.  This is the sixth year that Stewart has been selected as CCC Coach of the Year.
