FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University track and field continued its successful season on day two of the Pacific Twilight. The Mountaineers saw two NAIA “A” standards hit as well as two NAIA “B” standards.
After missing the NAIA “A” standard by 0.02 meters at the Willamette Invitational, Brian Wickham recorded his season’s best throw in the discus. On his second throw of the day, Wickham record a throw of 48.07 meters (157-08) to hit the NAIA “A” standard. He finished second in the event.
Irene Olivo, improved on her NAIA “A” standard in the 400 meter hurdles, which she set at the Northwest Nazarene University Invitational. Olivo won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.45, which hit the “A” standard and improved her previous mark by 0.14 seconds.
The women’s 4x100 meter relay team got the Mountaineers off to a fast start on the second day. The relay team of Megan Sullivan, Kendall Current, Carlondra McGee-Woolbright and Kadie Booth ran the fastest time in the event by clocking a time of 48.18, to hit the NAIA “B” standard. This time was just off the school record which was set earlier this year.
Senior Kadie Booth continued her excellent season on the track. After anchoring the 4x100 relay team to a first place finish, Booth came back and ran the second fastest time in the 100 meter dash. She ran a time of 12.47. Booth was not done for the day as she clocked the fastest time of the meet in the 200 meter run, with a time of 25.50, which was 0.41 seconds faster than second place.
In the women’s 400 meter run, Eastern Oregon claimed the three fastest times of the meet. McGee-Woolbright won the race with a time of 59.09. Teammate, Megan Sullivan followed with a time of 59.22 and Talissa Baldovino finished third with a time of 59.59.
Talitha Fagen hit the NAIA “B” standard in the women’s pole vault at the Pacific Twilight. Fagen, who finished second in the event, vaulted a height of 3.50 meters (11-5 ¾).
The men’s 4x400 meter relay team composed for Tyler Zyph, Damion Flores, Hans Roelle and Ty Warn, clocked the fastest time in the relay. EOU finished the relay in a time of 3:22.82, which was five seconds faster than second place.
Finishing third in the men’s shot put was Jason Hendricks. Hendricks saved his best throw for last as he recorded a distance of 13.54 meters (44-5 ½) to earn him third place finish.
Ty Warn claimed the fourth fastest time in the Cascade Collegiate Conference when he ran a time of 57.75, which earned him a fourth place finish in the 400 meter hurdles.
The Mountaineers return to the track next weekend when they head to Nampa, Idaho to run in the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships on May 9th and 10th. The meet will be held on the campus of Northwest Nazarene University.
