Tierra Barrett and Rachele Bedsole were part of SOU's 4x400m relay win Saturday at Pacific.
FOREST GROVE – The Southern Oregon University track and field team got wins out of its women's 4x400-meter relay team and discus tossers Holly Haga and Markus Sanders on Saturday at Lincoln Park Stadium on the final day of the Pacific Twilight.
Kevin Jorgensen nearly picked up a fourth win for the Raiders, but his time in the 800-meter relay of 1 minutes, 53.83 seconds was one-hundredth of a second behind Spokane Community College's Paris Speidel, who bested the 61-person field. It was an NAIA 'B' standard qualifying mark, though he already has an 'A' in the event.
Sanders and Haga were already automatic qualifiers in the discus, too, and Sanders improved his 'A' mark by 8 feet, 7 inches with a throw of 166-11, which is currently No.10 on the NAIA performance list. He did it on his second attempt to top 27 others.
Haga, in a women's field of 27, spanned 143-06 on her first throw and it ended up being her best. Savannah Swan was sixth at 113-10.
The 4x100-meter relay team – consisting of Rachele Bedsole, Tierra Barrett, Aspen Abbott and Jessie Rozario – finished in 4:02.53, which was 2.71 seconds ahead of runner-up Spokane.
Rozario also took fourth of 30 in her first try in two years at the 800, clocking 2:21.91 for a new personal best. Tanya Jones was sixth in 2:23.03.
Cameron Bremner claimed third of 38 in the 200-meter race with a time of 22.39, just .13 seconds behind unattached winner Zachary Schlachter.
In the women's pole vault, Stepanie Techler placed second (11-05.75) and Alex Morris sixth (9-06.25). Techler's mark reached a 'B' standard but she's already an automatic qualifier for the NAIA Championships.
Eric Avila will compete in the 5,000-meter race Sunday for the Raiders at Stanford's Payton Jordan Invitational. Then it's off to the Cascade Conference Championships, which will take place next Friday and Saturday in Nampa, Idaho.
