British Columbia Wins 2014 NAIA West Baseball Tournament
VANCOUVER, B.C. – Overcoming rain throughout the day, the British Columbia Thunderbirds claimed the 2014 NAIA West Group Championship presented by U.S. Bank with a 4-1 win over Concordia on Sunday at Thunderbird Park in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Game Seven – Concordia 4, Corban 2 - Box Score
A two-RBI single by Concordia’s Cole Buruse in the bottom of the eighth broke a 2-2 tie as the Cavaliers advanced to the 2014 NAIA West Group Championship game with a 4-2 win over the Corban Warriors. The Cavs and Warriors waited out a two-hour rain delay heading into the ninth but CU’s Austin Hadley retired the Warriors in order to preserve the win and move on to the title game.
Game Eight – British Columbia 4, Concordia 1 - Box Score
UBC’s Matt Spillman went two-for-three with and the Thunderbird’s bullpen pitched four innings of two-hit ball as British Columbia clinched the 2014 NAIA West Tournament title with a 4-1 win over Concordia. With the win, the Thunderbirds earn the grouping’s automatic bid to the NAIA Opening Round.
The NAIA Opening Round pairings will be announced on May 9 with action set to begin on May 12.
