LA GRANDE, Ore. – Excelling both on the court and in the classroom, Concordia senior Kelly Huey and Northwest senior Michael Greene have been named Scholar Athletes of the Year in the Cascade Conference.
Huey, a member of the Concordia women’s basketball team, holds a 3.97 grade-point average as a nursing major. Before arriving in Portland, she was named the 2013 California Community College Athletic Association Scholar Athlete of the Year after earning a 4.0 GPA at Skyline College in the Bay Area.
In addition to her terrific academic work, she has been involved in community service at Maranatha Presbyterian Church and has volunteered at bot City Kids God’s summer camp and at inner-city basketball camps in San Francisco. She also volunteered at California Pacific Medical Center and has assisted with dental screenings at Sanchez Elementary School and addition health fairs in the area.
Greene, a business administration major, maintained a 3.9 grade-point average throughout his career, including graduate school. He has been both a CCC and NAIA Scholar-Athlete in all years eligible and is a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection. A two-time First Team All-CCC selection on the court, he appeared in three NAIA Division II National Championships in his Eagle career and led this year’s squad with a 16.9 ppg scoring average.
