Lichtenthaler makes pro debut with San Francisco Giants organization
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.—Days after signing a free agent contract with the San Francisco Giants, former Concordia University baseball player Christian Lichtenthaler (Albany, Ore./West Albany H.S.) made his professional debut on Friday with the Arizona (Rookie) League.
Batting ninth and getting the starting nod at shortstop, Lichtenthaler went 0 for 3 at the plate but drew a walk and stole second base in his first at bat in the second inning. Lichtenthaler later moved to second base as the Giants defeated the Diamondbacks club 5-3 on the road at Salt River Fields.
Lichtenthaler started 47 games for Concordia in 2014. The infielder led the team with a .330 batting average, compiling 62 hits in 188 at bats. Lichtenthaler scored 24 runs and drove in 28 runners, one shy of the team lead.
