Junior Blake Drake (Ramona, Calif./Ramona H.S.) became the first Concordia baseball player drafted in exactly 10 years when the St. Louis Cardinals nabbed the speedy outfielder in the 18th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft on Saturday.

Drake became the fifth Cavalier to be drafted, the first since pitcher Michal Devaney was taken in the 23rd round by the New York Mets in 2004. Drake also represents the highest drafted player in school history, beating out Ron McClintock, who was picked in the 21st round by the San Francisco Giants in 1987.

A two-time NAIA All-West honoree, Drake compiled a .329 batting average in three years in the Navy & White. He also tallied 47 stolen abases in 59 attempts. Last season, Drake led the club in several offensive categories, including, runs (51), hits (64), doubles (14), stolen bases (21) and home runs (4).

The Cardinals had 42 picks in the 40-round draft and grabbed pitchers with its first six selections. Drake was the second of five outfielders taken by the Cardinals with College of William & Mary's Nick Thompson chosen in the eighth round.
