Elise De Jesse and the SOU defense shut out The Master's for 77 minutes Monday. Farris, No. 18 Mustangs sink SOU in overtime 8/25/2014 3:49:00 PM SOU Sports Information MEDFORD – Katie Farris and the 18th-ranked Master's College Mustangs needed most of regulation to come back and tie the Southern Oregon University women's soccer team Monday at U.S. Cellular Field, but it took just a few moments for them to sink the Raiders in overtime. Farris tapped in the equalizer in the 78th minute, handling Stephanie Albright's cross from the right corner, and then converted the golden goal just 33 seconds into overtime as the Mustangs won 2-1 in the SOU Season-Opening Showcase game. Both teams are now 1-1 on the season. The overtime goal from Farris was about 20 yards deep, straight on and just over the outstretched arms of SOU keeper Devon Walker (Yelm, Wash./Yelm ). The Raiders went ahead in the third minute, accepting a gift from the Mustangs on Jacquie Galvez (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley)'s first score of the season. Galvez, who was assisted by Megan McArthur (San Jose, Calif./Presentation), sent a rocket from 25 yards out that was within the reach of Master's keeper Jessica Zubia, but Zubia misjudged the bounce as it short-hopped past her and into the net. She wouldn't be very busy for the rest of the afternoon, needing just three saves as the Raiders got off six total shots. The Mustangs had 19 shots, including 12 after halftime, taking advantage of SOU having to play a defender down due to Paige Kilpatrick (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta Valley)'s red card in the 59th minute that was the result of her stopping a Master's breakaway. The contest also featured five yellow cards. The teams have met in each of the last three seasons and needed an extra period every time. The Mustangs are now 2-0-1 in the series. SOU will be back in action at 4:30 p.m. on Friday at U.S. Cellular Field against Hope International. That game will be preceded by a matchup between Corban and Menlo.
