OLYMPIA, Wash. – A well-matched game went the way of the Wildcats as visiting Johnson & Wales earned the season-opening win over the Evergreen Geoducks, 1-0, in a non-conference men's soccer match on Thursday evening at Geoduck Pitch in Olympia, Wash.

The lone goal came in the 28th minute as JWU's Tyler Glenn gathered an attempted clear by the Evergreen defense following a Wildcat corner kick and Glenn fired a shot into the upper-corner for the 1-0 lead.

The Geoducks gave it everything they had in the second half and even held a one-man advantage for the final six minutes following a second yellow shown to JWU's Bryan Suarez but Wildcat keeper Trevor Shepard was solid in net, making five saves to secure the shutout victory.

Evergreen keeper Angel Guerra made one save in his Geoduck debut as the Geoducks outshot JWU, 13-4, on the night.  The physical contest featured five total cautions, including the double yellow to Suarez.

Up next for Evergreen is 10th-ranked Concordia (Calif.).  The Geoducks will battle with the Eagles a week from tomorrow in a neutral site match in Portland, Ore.  First kick with the Eagles is set for 7 p.m. on Sep. 5 at Concordia (Ore.).
