FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Evergreen Geoducks got right down to business on Saturday night, sweeping past the New Hope Christian Deacons, 25-10, 25-16, 25-14, in a non-conference volleyball match at Stoller Center Gymnasium in Forest Grove, Ore.
In the first set, the Geoducks hit double-digits early as Evergreen held a 12-2 lead in the middle of a 6-0 run. New Hope put together a run of their own but it wasn't close to enough to be competitive as Evergreen ran away with the 25-10 set one win. The Geoducks hit .333 on the match, connecting for 17 kills with six errors on 33 total attacks.
In the second set, the play was competitive early but a 9-0 Evergreen run put the frame out of reach for the Deacons. The Geoducks struggled on the attack, hitting just .115, but New Hope also struggled, hitting a negative .130 as Evergreen took a 2-0 lead with a 25-16 set win.
The third set was all Geoducks from the very beginning as Evergreen took the initial lead on a kill by Molly King and never trailed. New Hope tried to get back in it late, using an 8-1 run to pull back within seven but five straight point by the Geoducks put it out of reach as Evergreen used a 25-14 set three win to clinch the match in straight sets.
Evergreen was led by 11 kills from Brandee Victorino. King added seven kills to go with six blocks while Avery Shaw recorded 14 assists as the primary setter in the second and third sets. Natimia Barker-Doss led the defense with 10 digs, playing just the first and third sets.
New Hope was led by six kills from Vika Naula. Just four players recorded kills for New Hope, who put down 16 kills with 20 errors on 73 swings for a negative .055 hitting percentage.
The Geoducks wrap up weekend action on Sunday morning as they take on Walla Walla. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at Stoller Center Gymnasium in Forest Grove, Ore.
