ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – The Eastern Oregon University women's soccer team was defeated by Soka University, 4-0, on Friday evening.
The Lions of Soka University broke the scoreless tie with 22:38 left before halftime. Alise Hildreth took a pass from Lindsey Shoehard and put the ball in the back of the net to put the Lions on top 1-0.
The Mountaineers, who recorded a season high 12 shots in the contest, continued to pressure the Lions defense. With 11 minutes to go before halftime, EOU looked to have a scoring chance but the shot by
Maddi Cillay went wide.
Soka added its second goal of the game with 10 minutes to go in the first half. Kailey Moser found Denim Belville, who found the back of the net to put the Lions ahead, 2-0. Eastern Oregon went into halftime trailing 2-0.
Eastern Oregon kept up the pressure early in the second half.
Kaeliana De Vera fired a shot at Alexis Houghton but De Vera's shot hit the post to keep the Mountaineers off the scoreboard. Less than a minute later
Lexi Olivo fired a shot towards the goal but the shot sailed wide.
Soka kept the offensive pressure on as Belville added her second goal of the game with 31:21 left in the game. Ariana Vasquez found Belville extending the Lions lead to 3-0. Belville was not done scoring for the night. Five minutes after her second goal, Belville complete the hat trick for the Lions as she added her third goal and put the Lions on top, 4-0.
The Mountaineers kept up the offensive pressure looking for a goal. With 11:34 left in the second half, Cillay fired a shot at Houghton, who recorded the save to keep the Mountaineers scoreless. Five minutes later,
Annie Konrad fired a shot at Houghton and Konrad had the same result as Cillay.
With 3:37 left in the second half,
Haley Hill was taking down in the box and was awarded a penalty shot. Hill lined up the shot but missed the shot wide. Eastern Oregon could not find the back of the net and fell, 4-0, to Soka.
The Mountaineers return to action on Friday Sept. 5 when they travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to face Arizona Christian University at 4 p.m. MT.
