GREAT FALLS, Mont. – After scoring a goal in just the 10th minute, the Great Falls Argonauts managed to hold off the Evergreen Geoducks, 1-0, in a non-conference women's soccer match on Monday morning in Great Falls, Mont.
UGF forward Danielle De La Vina took a pass from teammate Kendra DeJanovich just over nine minutes into the game and used the first shot of the contest to fire the ball past Evergreen keeper Kayla Baskett for the early advantage.
The Argo lead continued to hold into the second half but the Geoducks gave everything they had in the final 45 minutes, outshooting Great Falls, 8-4, in the second period. It wouldn't be enough as UGF keeper Jocelyn Morris and the Argo defense combined for four saves to preserve the shutout and earn their first win of 2014.
Baskett finished with four saves for the Geoducks in her collegiate debut. Kenzie Phillips led Evergreen with two shots.
The Geoducks return to action on Friday afternoon when they take a quick trip up to Parkland to take on Pacific Lutheran. First kick with the Lutes is set for Noon.
