KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University registered their third straight shutout of the 2014 season as they defeated Walla Walla Univ., 6-0, this afternoon under sunny skies and temperatures in the 70’s.

Odason Pelogi scored one of the quickest goals in NU history as he scored just 13 seconds into the game as he dribbled through the WWU defense and put a bullet in from the left into the right side of the net for the 1-0 lead. Pelogi then scored his second goal of the day in the 19th minute when he took Jonathan Ellis’ through ball over the top, beat the goalkeeper and put the ball into the back of the net.

In the 40th minute, NU’s freshman midfielder, Chris Iacolucci beat his defender on the right side and scored from 18 yards out. Todd Siedenburg was credited for the assist. Siedenburg then set up teammate Taylor Young for his third goal of the season (41:23) as Young bent his shot into the upper left corner from 18 yards out. Josimar Evangelista would give NU a 5 goal lead in the 43rd minute when he took Ryan Gamache’s well-placed corner kick and finished from 6 yards out on the left side. While the offense was pressing and finishing, the Eagle defense would continue to hold the Wolves scoreless.

Jacob Weaver scored the only goal of the second half as his shot from the middle, inside the box would sail into the lower right corner of the net for the Eagles’ final score of the day.

Walla Walla’s Josh Frey saved 11 of Northwest’s 17 shots on goal as Northwest (3-0-0) outshot the Wolves 39-4. Daniel Christenson earned the shutout for the third time this season and finished with two saves.

Said Gary McIntosh, NU men’s soccer coach, “I felt we came out focused and paid attention to the little things that will help us win games throughout the season.  Odi (Pelogi)started us off with a bang today scoring in the first 13 seconds and it really set the tone for the game. Our top four players all contributed today in big ways and it allowed us to score some nice goals.  It’s allways nice to get the shutout.”

The two teams meet again tomorrow in Kirkland at 4 p.m.
