OLYMPIA, Wash. – A pair of second half goals was all it took for the Evergreen Geoducks to hand the Northwest Eagles their first loss of the season as the Geoducks earned a 2-0 win in a Cascade Conference men's soccer match on Saturday afternoon at Geoduck Pitch in Olympia, Wash.
After a scoreless first half that saw a combined 15 shots with both teams attacking hard, the Geoducks finally opened up the scoring in the 70th minute as
Juan Lopez saw some space from about 20 yards out and unleashed a shot past Northwest keeper Daniel Christenson.
Evergreen scored the insurance goal just over seven minutes later as
Juan Oropeza fed in a ball to
Willie Spurr, who dribbled around a defender and put a shot over the hands of Christenson for the 2-0 lead.
NU gave it everything they had trying to comeback but Evergreen keeper
Angel Guerra was a wall in net, making five saves to collect the clean sheet.
The Geoducks will be back in action on Tuesday evening as they host Corban in a CCC match, beginning at 5 p.m. on Geoduck Pitch in Olympia.
