Eagles Shutout Owls in Conference Opener 3-0
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Northwest University controlled play and dominated the scoreboard on the way to a 3-0 Cascade Conference win Thursday night at Trevor Derrah Field at Steen Sports Park. Northwest improved to 3-5-1 on the season and 1-0 in CCC play. Oregon Tech falls to 0-1 in Conference and 5-4-0 on the season.
Northwest got on the scoreboard in the 27th minute when Rachel Saleen took a loose ball, dribble around an Oregon Tech defender and scored the eventual game winner in the lower left corner of the Tech goal.
Northwest would continue to dominate possession in the first half out shooting Tech 19-3, only great keeper play by Tech’s Rebekah Matteri, who registered 8 first half saves, kept the score at 1-0.
Northwest picked up where they left off in the second half, continuing to control possession and game tempo. The Eagles went up 2-0 as Sarah Taubenheim converted a free kick from just outside the 18 in the 51st minute.
Acaia Johnson finished off the scoring in the 54th minute, taking a loose ball in front of the Oregon Tech goal and scored her sixth goal of the season from about 6 feet out.
For the game, Northwest held a huge 29-8 advantage in shots and a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Oregon Tech will try to rebound against Evergreen State on Saturday at 1:00 pm at Trevor Derrah Field. Northwest will play at Southern Oregon University in Ashland on Saturday.
