PORTLAND, Ore. - Warner Pacific defeated Corban for the first time in 10 tries with 1-0 decision over the Warriors tonight in Portland.

The Basics

• Score: Warner Pacific 1, Corban 0,
• Records: WPC (4-5-1, 1-0 CCC), CRB (5-4-1, 0-1 CCC)
• Location: Strasser Field, Portland, Ore.
• The Short Story: Crystal Foster knocked in a goal during a dominant first half to send Warner Pacific past visiting Corban. The contest was the Cascade Conference opener for both teams. The Knights outshot the Warriors 8-1 in the period, and earned three corner kicks compared to zero for Corban. The score held up over the 45 minutes of the second half despite Corban gaining a foothold during the search for an equalizer. The WP defense was up to the task however, as keeper Allie Holterman made six saves to preserve the shutout.

Notables

• Foster's goal came in the 28th minute, as the striker latched on to a headed pass from Carley Turner and beat Warrior goalkeeper Sheyenne Brusven.
• The attacking duo of Foster and Gelsomina Cavalli-Singer kept the Warrior defense busy in the first period.
Erin Graham saw her shot skim off the crossbar just moments after the first goal.
• The second half started brightly for WP also, as the Knights were able to put three more shots toward goal and earned another corner kick.
• Corban was able find consistent posession about halfway through the period and tested Holterman with seven shots while pressing forward with numbers.
• Warner Pacific's defense held firm and Holterman earned her third shutout of 2014.
