Johnson, Eagles down SOU with late goal 9/27/2014 12:44:00 PM SOU Sports Information ASHLAND – In the first Southern Oregon soccer game ever played at Raider Stadium, Northwest University's Acacia Johnson spoiled some of SOU's sharpest work of the season Saturday morning with one well-placed shot in 75th minute, giving the Eagles a 1-0 win. Northwest, which was a game ahead of the Raiders in second place last season, went to 4-5-1 overall and 2-0 in the first week of Cascade Conference play. The Raiders dropped to 2-7 and 1-1. The goal was Johnson's seventh of the season, tying her for the league lead. Tatyana Reveles connected with her on a Northwest advantage, and it was just Johnson and the keeper when she skipped a 12-yard shot from right to left and just out of Devon Walker (Yelm, Wash./Yelm )'s reach as she attempted a sliding stop. SOU had its chances, totaling 13 shots and five corners. Presley Lambert (Santa Clarita, Calif./Hart) was denied her third goal of the season 90 seconds into the second half when her shot bounced off the right sidebar and back into play. With three minutes left, Haylee Eckart (Eugene, Ore./Willamette) took a crack at the tie with a straight shot from 10 yards out, but Patty Hughes protected the shutout with her sixth and final save. Northwest had 13 shots and put eight on goal, giving Walker seven saves. The game was the first of any kind played on the new synthetic field turf at Raider Stadium, the installation of which allowed SOU soccer to move out of the adjacent University Field following the 2013 season. The Raiders played their first five home games this year in Medford. SOU will be on the road next week, Thursday at Northwest Christian and Saturday at Corban.
