PORTLAND, Ore. - A late second half penalty conversion rescued a point for Warner Pacific in a 1-1 draw versus Evergreen tonight in CCC play.
The Basics
• Score: Warner Pacific 1, Evergreen 1
• Records: WPC (3-2-3, 2-1-1 CCC), ESC (2-5, 2-1-1 CCC)
• Location: Strasser Field, Portland, Ore.
• The Short Story: Warner Pacific surrendered a breakaway goal in the waning moments of the first half, but earned a penalty kick late in the second to salvage a tie versus Evergreen. The visiting Geoducks had most of their chances in the first half, as WPC established a grip on the match after halftime. The offensive surge paid off for the Knights in the 87th minute.
Geovanny Vazquez was clipped in the box which gave WP a try from the spot.
Joe White came up from his goalkeeper position and hammered it into the net for the equalizer.
How it Happened
• Connor Beck put Evergreen on the scoreboard first. He slotted his shot past White from close in after taking a centering pass from Tanner Williams.
• Warner Pacific began to impose their will as the second period wore on, shooting nine times at goal compared to three for the Geoducks.
• Angel Guerra was a wonder for ESC between the pipes, stopping a drive from
Geovanny Vazquez in th 90th minute, and then the point blank rebound chance by
Mario Guizar.
• The Knights pressed forward to no avail in the overtime periods. Guerra again came up big with a reaction stop of a
Ruben Amezcua blast from 8 yards.
Up Next
• Warner Pacific will host Evergreen on Saturday, September 27. Game starts at 7:30 pm at Strasser Field.
