LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 23 Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers won their first home game against Walla Walla Univeristy. The Mountaineers won their 21st straight by sweeping Walla Walla University, 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-10) on Wednesday night.
Kasaundra Tuma led the Mountaineers as she recorded 11 kills on the match. Tuma recorded a hitting percentage of .917.
Kendra De Hoog followed for the Mountaineers with 10 kills.
Rachelle Chamberlain dished out 27 assists in the match.
In set one, EOU led the Wolves, 6-4; the Mountaineers went on a 6-1 run to take a six point lead, 12-6. The Mountaineers continued to dominate. After scoring six points in a row the Mountaineers took a 20-9 lead. Walla Walla continued to battle and cut the Mountaineers lead down to 23-16, however that would be as close as the Wolves got as EOU scored the final two points to take set one, 25-16.
The Mountaineers and Wolves were tied 4-4, during the second set. The Mountaineers took control of the set and scored 11 of the next 16 points to take a 15-9 lead. Walla Walla continued to chip away and trimmed EOU's lead down to six points, 19-13. EOU scored the next six of seven points to take set two, 25-14.
Early in set three, the Wolves led 6-3 over EOU. Eastern Oregon slowly started chipping away and after a kill by Tuma the Mountaineers took a 9-8 lead. The Mountaineers held the lead scoring the last 14 points of the set to take set three, 25-10 and the match, 3-0.
The Mountaineers return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 9th when they travel to College of Idaho to open up Cascade Collegiate Conference action. The match starts at 7 p.m. MT.
