Oregon Tech Sweeps Beacons in Conference Action

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech moved to 2-0 in Cascade Conference action after a straight-set victory over Northwest Christian University 3-0, (25-14, 25-20, 25-20) this evening at Danny Miles Court.
 
Oregon Tech moves to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference standings.  NCU is even at 2-2 on the season and 0-2 in CCC play.
 
Leading 15-13, Oregon Tech outscored NCU 10-1 to take the opener 25-14.  During the stretch Madisen Garlie added two kills with Jennifer Lakin adding an ace and Mykala Rubey a kill.  The Beacons didn’t help themselves, with six errors in the same span.
 
Set 2 saw the team’s battle to seven ties, the last at 13-13, before the Owls were able to stay in front for good, behind a Renee Baumann kill.  Still leading, 21-19, back-to-back kills from Whitney Webster and Kelsey Rank pushed the Owls to a four point advantage, on the way to a 25-20 win in the set and 2-0 lead.
 
Set 3 remained tight throughout with NCU taking an early 13-8 lead, including a pair of Chelsea McGowan kills and two miscues from the home team. 
 
Tech managed to tie it up at 14-14 on back-to-back Rubey kills.  Tied at 16-all, another Rubey kill would give the lead back to Tech for good.  Holding a 23-20 advantage, Kelsey Sampson and Rubey, on assists from Megan Holland, ended the match with a 25-20 set 3 win.
 
Kelsey Sampson led the Owls with a match-high 11 kills with Mykala Rubey adding eight and Madisen Garlie seven in the win.  Garlie notched eight block assists and Rubey five for Tech.  Whitney Webster and Renee Baumann tallied six kills apiece.  Megan Holland and Tori Porter combined for 33 assists with Baumann adding a match-high 18 digs.  Sampson followed with 15 digs and Jennifer Lakin 14 to anchor the Owls’ defense.
 
For NCU, Chandler Gabrio tallied 10 kills with Chelsea McGowan adding nine for the Beacons.  Alyssa Dorr recorded 23 assists with Haley Damian and Dorr gathering 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
