Evergreen Sweeps Warner Pacific to Open CCC Play

PORTLAND, Ore. – It was a battle in each set but the Evergreen Geoducks picked up a three-game sweep over the Warner Pacific Knights to open Cascade Conference volleyball action on Friday night at C.C. Perry Gymnasium in Portland, Ore.

In the first set, the Knights came out strong as a 7-0 run put WPC up 12-6.  The Geoducks roared back, using a 9-0 run to go from down six points to up three at 21-18 as Evergreen earned a 25-22 win to open the match.

The Knights started strong again in the second set, leading 7-2 early but Evergreen again went on a run, using six-straight points to take a one point lead.  The squads continued to battle and with the Knights leading 21-20, Evergreen scored five of the final six points to win the second set 25-22 to take the two-set lead.

The third set looked nearly identical to the first two as both teams battled back and forth the whole frame.  With WPC leading 23-21, Evergreen tied the set at 24-24 and used a kill by Ivy Eakes and a WPC attack error to clinch he match with a 27-25 set three win.

Evergreen was led by 16 kills from Brandee VictorinoJaclyn Trinque added 33 assists to go with six kills while Natimia Barker-Doss led the back row with 22 digs.  The Geoducks hit .294 on the night, connecting for 47 kills with 15 errors on 109 attacks.

Warner Pacific was led by 11 kills from Janessa White.  Marchelle Bostic added 29 assists while Kelsey Merritt led the Knights with 11 digs.

Evergreen continues the weekend road trip on Saturday when they take on Concordia.  First serve with the Cavaliers is set for 5 p.m.
