EOU, SOU Tied at Halfway Point of CCC Women’s Basketball Season
LA GRANDE, Ore. – Halfway through the Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s basketball regular season, Eastern Oregon and Southern Oregon sit in a tie for first-place with a 7-2 conference record.
Corban isn’t far behind in third place with a CCC record of 6-3 while Oregon Tech and College of Idaho are tied at 5-4. Following them are Evergreen (4-5), Northwest (3-6), Concordia (3-6), Northwest Christian (3-6) and Warner Pacific (2-7).
The latest NAIA Division II women’s basketball Coaches’ top 25 poll features three teams either ranked or receiving votes. SOU is the only ranked team sitting at No. 12 while both EOU and Oregon Tech received votes.
The Raiders lead the conference in scoring offense (86.7 points per game), field goal percentage (49 percent), rebounding (47.9) and assists (19.8). EOU ranks second in all of these categories with 76.8 points per game, 44 percent shooting, 46.5 rebounds and 18.2 assists.
Oregon Tech boasts the best defense in the CCC allowing 52.2 points per game and holding their opponents to a 33 percent shooting percentage.
The Evergreen State College’s senior forward Brittany Gray leads the conference is scoring averaging 15.9 points per game. Evergreen’s senior forward and Warner Pacific’s senior guard Jordan Wilcox are tied at 14.6 while SOU’s senior forward Alexi Smith averages 13.8.
SOU’s freshman forward Courtney West holds a conference best 65 percent shooting hitting 77-of-119 shots.
Corban’s senior forward Tara Van Weerdhuizen ranks highest in rebounds averaging just over 10 per game while Concordia’s senior guard leads in assists with 5.5.
The second half of the season kicks off this Friday with key match ups including Eastern Oregon hosting Oregon Tech and College of Idaho hosting Southern Oregon. Saturday action features the two first-place teams going head-to-head as EOU plays host the Raiders.
