NU's Pavilion: Brighter Lights at a Lower Cost
KIRKLAND, Wash. - For Northwest University Eagle fans attending recent basketball games in the NU Pavilion, they may have noticed a change in the lighting. The lights in the Pavilion have been converted from the old, halogen bulbs, to newer LED, energy efficient tubes which are expected to save 60% in energy costs. The NU Maintenance Department has contracted on outside company to make the conversion to the new lighting system.
The life expectancy of the LED light tubes will also last five to seven years, much longer the the old type flourescent and the quality of light emitted from the bulbs are brighter and closer to natural sunlight in temperature. Photographers have commented on the improvement in the quality of their photos with the new lighting. The lights are also instant on compared to the older halogen bulbs which took minutes to reach 100% brightness.
In addition to the Pavilion, all lighting at Northwest University is being converted to the newer LED lights, so the entire campus will be much more energy efficient and experiencing a considerable cost savings.
The Seattle Mariners have just converted the lights at SAFECO Field to LED lighting and has been recently certified and approved by Major League Baseball. They will enjoy the same savings in energy costs as Northwest University.
