KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – In front of a near capacity crowd at Oregon Tech’s 6th Annual “Pink Out” cancer awareness event, the Owls came back from a six point second half deficit to Northwest Christian University to claim an 84-74 victory tonight in Cascade Collegiate Conference men’s basketball action.

NCU led 10-7 seven minutes in, but a 22-4 Oregon Tech run pushed the Owls out to a 29-14 advantage with 8:48 to play in the opening half.

Tech would use five triples in the stretch to hold their largest lead of 15 in the period.  Josh Johnson, Duncan Schramm, Austen Flint and two from Lavar Moore led to the Owls run.

NCU, however, closed to single-digits with a 7-0 spurt using four free throws and a Jack Hackman trey to close the deficit to 29-21.

A Schramm basket bumped the Owls to a double-digit lead, 31-21, with seven minutes on the clock.  Austen Flint’s triple with under two minutes remaining turned out to be Tech’s last field goal of the half.

With five minutes remaining a Michael Loomis triple sparked the Beacons to a 10-2 run and when Austin Kuemper hit a short jumper the visitors led 34-33 with 3:08 to go in the opening period.  NCU eventually took their largest advantage in the first half, 39-34, on a pair of Loomis free throws and took a 41-37 advantage into halftime.

NCU would move up by six in the second stanza before a Chris Faust jumper tied the game at 47-all.  The Beacons once again took a lead, 52-47, but Tech again fought back to tie it at 52-all on a pair of Johnson freebies.

A Schramm trey gave the Owls their first lead of the second half at 60-58 with 7:15 remaining and would move up by as many as five, 64-59, on a Flint 3-pointer with 6:31 to play.  Tyler Van Kirk, two minutes later, lifted Tech to a 71-63 lead.

NCU would close to four points, 73-69, but the owls outscored NCU 11-5 to win by the 84-74 final.

Austen Flint led five Owls in double digits with a team-high 17 points.  Lavar Moore followed with 16 points and 15 points from Brandon Bautista. Duncan Shramm added 13 points and Josh Johnson 11 in the win.  Johnson added nine rebounds and Sherman Simpson six.

Jay Mayernik finished with 17 points to lead NCU with Jack Hackman adding 16 and Austin Kemper 15 in the loss.  Kemper and Mayernik grabbed six boards each.
